Color Guard Show Makeup & Hair

Each member will need to provide $20 (cash or checks made payable to TCMB) before our first contest for hair and makeup this year. This will cover:

Gold Eye Glitter $5
Bronze Eye Glitter $5
Glitter Stick $5 (used to apply the glitter around the eyes)
Small cosmetic bag
Make-up brush set (needed to apply glitter)
Gold or Bronze Braided Headband $4
Lip Gloss $1

Because we are buying such a large quantity, we are receiving a $3.75 per item discount on both the glitters and glitter pen, typically all of these items would cost over $31.

Messy Bun Instructions LINK

Your competition hair should look like the picture to the left. We will be wearing headbands similar to the one in the photo, you will need to backcomb your hair before you create the bun to achieve the height in the hair between the headbands.

1. Gather your hair into a mid ponytail.
2. Make sure the ponytail is loose in order to obtain the wanted look.
3. Make a simple bun, and pull out about 4-5 hair strands out of it. (Each about an inch wide)
4. Take each strand one at a time and loop them into your rubber band. (This will make a flower effect to your bun) Don’t make it too perfect, it’s a messy bun.
5. Loosen the hair around your ponytail (at the top of your head and around the neck).
6. Add hairspray!

If you want to save on bobby pins, Goody makes a new hair tool called Spin Pins that work really well to keep a bun in place (you need hair that at least goes past your shoulders). They run about $6 at drugstores and discount stores like Target and Wal-Mart.

Eye makeup and lip gloss will be purchased for each member. We are using eye/face glitter this year and what is being purchased is safe to use around the eye area and for those members who wear contacts.

In addition to our eye makeup and lips, each member needs to provide the following items on their own (most of which you probably own already):

Foundation (even if you don’t typically wear foundation, you need it)
Face Power (translucent or foundation-style is fine)
Concealer (optional)
Black or Black/Brown Mascara
Brown Eye Liner
Blush
Eye Shadow Brush (you must have this to apply the glitter, they will come with the makeup)

You will also need to bring to each competition:
Hairspray
Rubber Bands (please get some that are close to matching your hair color)
LOTS of Bobby Pins (that match your hair color)
Comb or Pick (to tease/backcomb hair)
Brush
Curling Iron or Flat Iron

Makeup remover and cotton pads or makeup remover wipes are optional, but a good idea.

Volunteers Needed

A reminder to all families with students in the marching band program:

Every family needs to sign up to work the Tipp City Marching Band Invitational on September 18, and to select 2 other Music Booster activities in order to fulfill your commitment to the general fund raising effort. Music Boosters general fundraising decreases your personal out -of-pocket expense for marching band, per child, of around $250.  We need every family to participate!

There are a few immediate needs for help. Please respond via email to me at Im4kdds@aol.com if you are able to commit to any of the following:

TONIGHT: August 17   Girls Soccer Scrimmage  4:30 – 9:30

Thursday, August 19     Boys Soccer Scrimmage 4:30 – 9:00

Friday, August 20         Varsity Football Scrimmabe 6:30 – 9:30

Saturday, August 21     Howell Field Concessions  11 – 2:30, 2:30 – 6:30

STUDENTS MAY WORK THIS EVENT!

Girls Soccer Scrimmage 9:00 – 2:30

Tuesday, August 24      Howell Field Concessions  4:30 – 7:00

Sunday, August 29        Howell Field Concessions  11 – 2:30, 2:30 – 6:30

Boys Soccer Game  5:00 – 9:30

This is just a beginning list and we need a large number of spots to be filled. Please consult your calendars and sign up! You will be receiving a call from our Volunteer Coordinators to fill in any open obligations in the near future.

Thank you for supporting the students and marching band program!

Order Form for Color Guard Show Costumes

An email was sent to all TCG members and parents this evening with the show/competition costume order form in it. This is for items you or your child will need to purchase to wear under their costume. These items are theirs to keep and most items will be reused at some point in time during the next few seasons. There is a note on the order form, but as a reminder you do not need to replace old gloves or shoes if you have some from a previous season that fit the color and description on the form.

These order forms are due on August 11th and CANNOT BE LATE in order to make sure we get the things the girls need by our first contest. Please contact Julie via email or phone if you have any questions.

Band Calendar

A pdf of the 2010-2011 Band Calendar has been posted on the downloads page.

Message from Treasurer

The student accounts have been updated on the download page!

All payments for Band Camp should have been made last night unless arrangements were made with Mr. Parks or the Treasurer of TCMB.

If you still owe for camp you can use the online store with a small fee and make your account current.

Dance Camp Performance 6/13, 5:30pm

The color guard will have a short (20 minutes or so) performance at the end of Dance Camp on Sunday evening. The students will review some barre work, some of the dance techniques they’ve learned over the 2-3 days and perform the competition show choreography they’ve learned as well.

If you are able, please come out and support your daughter and/or the entire group. After all, everything is always better, and means more, when it’s performed for an audience. Plus, it’s good as parents to see exactly what your kids have been doing for the 11-18 hours they’ve spent with the guard staff over the weekend. :)

Please let Julie know if you have any questions, we hope to see you there Sunday!! 5:30pm in the THS gym – all Tipp Marching Band & Color Guard friends and family (regardless of whether you have a child in the guard) are invited!

We have put together a folder of information to get you started. You will soon be assigned a “veteran parent” to serve as your mentor. They should be contacting you before school is out. In the meantime, if you have ANY questions, please give one of us a call!

Color Guard Dance Camp Info

Times for Dance Camp have been changed, please take a look at the new schedule below.

Friday 6/11 9am-4pm @ THS – sabres/dancers only

Saturday 6/12 9am-3pm @ THS

Sunday 6/13 12pm-6pm @ THS

We will have a Friends & Family performance at 5:30pm on Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend!! Also, we have some additional information for students that pertains to Dance Camp below. Please let Julie know if you have any questions.

Wear form fitting clothing and socks. Anything long and baggy is not acceptable. You must wear form fitting clothing (both tops and bottoms) where we can see your ankles, knees and back. Leotards or unitards with Soffe-type shorts in all black or “dance black” are the best option. And wear socks, tights or lyrical sandals.

Pack a lunch. ABSOLUTELY NO FAST FOOD. Make sure this is light and healthy, remember you still have hours of camp left after lunch.

Bring a snack and water bottle. Make sure this is healthy – granola bars, trail mix, nuts, fresh fruit, dried cereal, pretzels, baked chips, raw vegetables, yogurt, graham crackers, string cheese, peanut butter & apples/celery, etc.

Be on time. This does not mean you walk in the band room at 9am. It means you’re IN THE GYM, on your feet and ready to go (socks or lyrical sandals on, not sitting in the bleachers, etc) at 9am. The rule for winter season still applies, for every minute someone is late – the entire team runs a lap and/or Pilates 100/sets of crunches/pushups. (If 3 people are 3 minutes late each = 9 laps)
